WARKWORTH ONTARIO = RODEO TOWN!

The Warkworth Men's Hockey Team had a tremendous weekend for their 12th year of hosting the Dodge Rodeo. On Saturday the stands were SOLD OUT with possibly the largest crowd ever in their history. Over 80% of the Spectators drove from outside Warkworth area as the cottages in the Kawarthas emptied out and people came to the Rodeo. The top listed comments on the Dodge Survey sheets was "Best Rodeo Yet" or "Great Show". Over 50% of the people had visited a Dodge Rodeo before which means we are attracting quite a following for the Dodge Rodeo Brand.

5 radio Stations from the area were on site for live remotes as the Rodeo Grounds were definitely the focus of the community.  The local papers were all there as the Dodge Tour painted the town Red. The dance had close to 1,000 people in this little town of 482 people. Clearly the Dodge Tour has become the #1 Event in this Kawartha area as well as the number 1 fund raiser for a community event.

The Cowboys and Stock were as good as we have had. From the start of the year the Bucking horses have put on a show. Bronc Riders came from Quebec, Michigan and Ontario to compete and were not disappointed with the challenge. Bareback riders Tim Ryan and Pat Legault tied in Bareback. Pat represented Ontario/Quebec last year at the Canadian CCA Finals while Tim Ryan (Ontario Cowboy) came home from Texas to put on a show. Tim will stay in Ontario this summer to compete on the Dodge Tour trying to get to Mississauga as well as the Toronto Royal Winter Fair and Canadian Finals in Regina at the Agribition. In Saddle Bronc, Gino Perron (President Quebec Rodeo Association) came and had a victory with a 73 score. Bull Riding was a treat with Johny Shore scoring his second 80 score and winning the Bull Riding. The crowd came to its feet as Johny again showed us his style.

Timed events were extremely close as 100ths of a second separated many. Robin Williamson continued to dominate the Barrel racing while Amanda Fachini won the Pole bending. With Pole Bending being New the crowd enjoyed it and the Warkworth committee asked it to be back for 2009. Shelby Pattison had a winning weekend taking honours in the Jr. Barrels and winning second in Jr. Bulls. Holly Doner won the Jr. Bulls putting on a show as the crowd loved watching this young Girl put together a great ride. Natalie McMullen took first place in Break a Way Roping, while Darren Nooran won Tie down, and Brad Roe and Brad Bowie won team Roping.

It was a wonderful send off for Terry Dunk on Sunday as the Cowboys partook in "Terrys' Last Ride" A special thank you to all that helped with Terry Dunks Memorial.

The Dodge Tour now gets a short break and will then move to the Orangeville Fairgrounds August 2-3rd weekend. We look forward to seeing all there.

ALBERTA PREMIUM COWBOY OF THE WEEK
Corey Hopkins (Skinny) is awarded Alberta Premiums Cowboy of the week for his work in Bull Fighting. Bull Fighters are paid to put themselves in danger to save Cowboys and this weekend Corey had his hands more than full. You really have to see the picture to appreciate this.

DICKIES BULLRIDER OF THE WEEK
This week Dickies gives the nod to Johny Shore once again. He had his second score of 80 to win this weekend's event and take the lead in the dodge Tour. Congratulations again Johny on another Great ride.

QUARTER RACING OWNERS OF ONTARIO INC HORSE OF THE WEEK
The Quarter Racing Owners of Ontario continue to support and Honour Great Ontario Bred horses. Warkworth saw "Kessler" who is a 20 year old owned by Kansas Pickerell have a tremendous weekend winning money in both Barrel racing and Pole bending. Kessler was sired by Easily Smashed with Another Flick Bug as the Dam. Kessler had a wonderful career at the Track with 91 Starts and 11 wins. At 20 years old Kessler is in great shape and running strong on the Dodge Rodeo Tour.
Seen in the Picture Corey Hopkins helps a Cowboy get loose after the Cowboy was hung up. Note that when he got hit by the Bull he still grabbed the strap and got the Cowboy loose.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls paid tribute to Terry Dunk at Warkworth As seen, daughter Tracy and Son Trevor took Terry's horse Sid on Terry's last ride. Terry's Boots were not on his saddle as his boots were buried with him. Thank you to all the Cowboys and Cowgirls that helped pay respects and Honour Terry.
